Adrienne Alvarez Evening Anchor/Reporter
I was born and raised in Old Bridge, N.J. to Cuban-immigrant parents. Their work ethic and drive to succeed has inspired me to blaze my own trail.
I became interested in television news and journalism at a young age, watching Katie Couric and Ann Curry every morning while getting ready for school and reading the paper with my father many Sundays. I received my B.A. in Journalism after just three years at the University of Arizona (Go Wildcats!).
Most of my career has been spent here in the Sun City, and I wouldn't change that for the world.
I came to El Paso in 2007, as a reporter at our sister station, KTSM-TV. I moved up the ranks to become Weekend Anchor, before finally joining KDBC-TV Local 4 News as our Evening Anchor in 2010.
Before my arrival here, I had my start in broadcast journalism at KGUN-TV in Tucson, Ariz. as an associate producer. I then worked at KJCT-TV in Grand Junction, Colo. As the Weekend Anchor, and returned to Tucson to freelance as a reporter for Fox affiliate KMSB-TV.
While reporting here, I've earned several awards. I received a Lone Star Emmy award in 2009. I followed Ignacio Ramos on his first day of freedom from prison and house arrest. He is the former Border Patrol agent whose sentence for shooting a smuggler was commuted by former President George W. Bush.
Most recently, I was honored by YOU El Paso for voting me the 2011 “What's Up Best of the Best: Best Newscaster Under 40”. Thank you!
What’s your favorite thing about El Paso?
The weather and the people! Both couldn't be friendlier for someone who's used to the cold up North!
What is your favorite type of story to report?
We report so often on what's wrong in our community, that when a truly inspirational person or group comes along, I jump at the chance to feature them. I believe it takes just one person to make a difference. If telling their story has had any impact in the lives of our viewers, I've had a great day.
What do you do in your time off?
I love to go dancing, play Scrabble, and spend quality time with my husband and our dog and cat, Harley and Velcro.
