After much anticipation, the time has come to officially break ground on El Paso’s new Ballpark, the ground that will be home to El Paso’s new Triple-A baseball team next season, beginning in April 2014.
Head women’s basketball coach Mark Trakh announced the hiring of former Aggie Erica Sanchez as the third assistant to the program. Sanchez played basketball for the Aggies from 2007-12 and was coached by Trakh during the 11-12 season.
The UTEP track and field team is heading to the 2013 NCAA West Preliminary Championship from May 23-25 in Austin, Texas, for a chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
The Diablos come away with their first win of the season, against the Amarillo Sox in a seesaw battle 12-8 win. Tonight’s game was the last of the Diablos four game series with the Amarillo Sox, in which the Sox took the series 3-1.
Amarillo exploded early on, scoring ten runs in the first four innings to beat El Paso, 14-3. Sox LF David Peralta was the biggest offensive contributor. He drove home four runs and knocked a pair of doubles in the win.

The New Mexico State men’s golf team carded a team score of 1-under par, 279 in round two of the NCAA Regional Golf Tournament, at the par-70, 7,036-yard ASU Karsten Golf Course.
Senior Ryan Beck became the second New Mexico State pitcher to mark 300 strikeouts in a career as the Aggies bounced back and defeated Seattle U 4-0 at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue, Wash., Friday, May 17.
The Sun Bowl Association has announced that the 2013 Hyundai Sun Bowl game will be played Tuesday, Dec. 31, at 12 p.m. MT (2 p.m. ET) at Sun Bowl Stadium.
