The UTEP women’s golf team tied for seventh place at the Price’s Give Em Five Intercollegiate on Wednesday in Las Cruces, while the NMSU women finished 11th in their home tournament.
The Miners shot their low round of 290 on Wednesday, giving them a two-day tally of 900 (308-302-290). The champion of the 13-team tournament was Kansas (294-289-288-871).
Leading UTEP was freshman Maria Velasco, who tied for 21st place with an eight-over-par 224 (77-76-71). Emma Edin tied for 24th place (76-72-77-225), Nathalie Castillo tied for 36th place (76-77-74-227), Emma Burman tied for 43rd place (80-81-68-229) and Camino Sardinero tied for 58th place (79-77-77-233).
The Aggies finished the final round with a score of 14-over-par 302, giving them a total three-round score of 41-over-par 905 (299-304-302).
Freshman Kacey Dalpes was the top finisher for NM State, finishing in a tie for seventh. It is the best individual finish by an Aggie golfer this season. For the second consecutive round Dalpes finished with four birdies on the day. She shot a three-round total score of 3-over-par 219 (70-75-74).
The Miners have two more tournaments remaining in their fall schedule – the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate Oct. 13-14 in Palm Desert, Calif., and the Blue Raider Invitational Oct. 22-23 in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
After wrapping up the 13th edition of the Price's "Give Em' Five" Intercollegiate, NM State now looks forward to participating in the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown hosted by UNLV to be held Oct. 21-23.
