UTEP Women to open C-USA Tournament against Marshall Wednesday

UTEP will begin defense of its 2012 Conference USA Tournament Championship when it faces Marshall in the 1st round of this year’s event at 12:30 p.m. MT in Tulsa, Okla., Wednesday. The #5 seed Miners (20-9, 8-8) will aim to avenge a regular-season loss to the #12 seed Thundering Herd (9-20, 3-13).

- Victor will advance to face fourth-seeded UAB on Thursday.
- Game will be broadcast locally in El Paso on 1150 AM.
- Marshall has dropped its past four contests.
- UTEP snapped three-game skid by besting Tulane, 71-52, (3/8).
- 2nd straight 20-win season & 4th overall in program history.
- 2006-07 (22-8), 2007-08 (28-4) & 2011-12 (29-4) all did so.
- 18+ wins for the 5th time in the past 7 seasons.
- Happened once (18-12, 1992-93) in 1st 32 years of program.
- Posted a winning percentage of .500 or better at the halfway point in league play (5-3, finished 8-8) for the 7th straight year.
- Achieved 3 times in 15 campaigns before streak started.
- 10th straight season with least six league victories.
- 4 such years out of 20 before Adams (no league for 7 years).
- UTEP is 2-0 on neutral-site games this year & 20-12 all time during the Keitha Adams era in the situation.
- 12-19 record all time in conference tournament play.
- 9-10 during the Adams era in league tournaments.
- 8-5 at them since 2007, including 3-0 last year to win title.
- 2012 C-USA Tourney crown was the first in program history.
- Runner up at the 2008 C-USA Tournament Championship.
- Other semifinal showings were in WAC (1993, 1995 & 2004).
- Used 1 win to advance to the semifinals for each of those years.
