The UTEP Miners will square off against the Princeton Tigers in the opening round of the Wooden Legacy tournament on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 27) at Titan Gym on the campus of Cal State Fullerton. The game is set for noon MT and will be televised on ESPNU.

“It’s become a tradition in our program to play in a tremendous holiday tournament. We love the challenge of playing different styles on different nights, because it’s similar to what you’ll see in your conference tournament or the NCAA Tournament with quick turnarounds and preparations,” UTEP coach Tim Floyd said. “Princeton basketball has become synonymous with a style of play that is very unique and always challenging. They have a storied history and we look forward to what should be a great Thanksgiving weekend.”

Other first round matchups are San Diego versus Xavier at 2:30 p.m. MT, Long Beach State versus Western Michigan at 6:30 p.m. MT and San Jose State versus Washington at 9 p.m. MT.

The Miners will face either San Diego or Xavier on Friday, Nov. 28, and a to-be-determined opponent on Sunday, Nov. 30 when the action shifts to the Honda Center in Anaheim.

Princeton joined UTEP in last season’s College Basketball Invitational (CBI). The Tigers were 21-9 overall, 8-6 in the Ivy League, and won nine of their last 12 games. Princeton’s top returnee is junior forward Hans Brase, who averaged 11.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.

UTEP and Princeton will be meeting for the third time with the series tied at one victory apiece. Both previous matchups took place in the championship game of the Sun Bowl Tournament at the Don Haskins Center. Princeton topped UTEP, 76-64, on Dec. 28, 1996 and the Miners routed the Tigers, 68-42, on Dec. 28, 2004.
