The United States took another step closer to qualifying for soccer's world cup tonight. The U.S. defeated Guatemala, 3-1, advancing to the final phase of World Cup Qualifying set for next year. The U.S. needed only a tie to advance, but with the loss and Jamaica's win over Antigua and Barbuda, the U.S. and Jamaica advance.
Among the other CONCACAF teams, Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras and Panama move to the final round of qualifying. The Final Round hexagonal qualifying stage will be played from Feb. 6 through Oct. 15, 2013.
