A total of 20 past and present UTEP student-athletes will graduate from the university on Saturday (Dec. 15). The list includes 11 representatives from the football program, four from track & field, and one each from men’s golf, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball.
Highlighting the list of football graduates are six players who were regular starters during the 2012 season – center Eloy Atkinson, WILL linebacker Josh Fely, quarterback Nick Lamaison, cornerback Drew Thomas, left end Greg Watkins and cornerback Darren Woodard. Atkinson, Fely, Watkins and Woodard all garnered honorable mention All-Conference USA honors.
Another football graduate is Rod Huntley, a second team All-Conference USA choice in 2010 who made 29 career starts in the offensive line.
Soccer’s Skye Schultz was the 2009 C-USA Freshman of the Year. Softball’s Chelsea Troupe was one of the nation’s most prolific hitters in 2012, batting .426 with 19 home runs and 44 runs batted in. Track & field’s Richard Olsson finished 24th in the javelin at the 2011 NCAA Championships. Volleyball’s Stephanie Figueroa posted 571 digs in 2011, the second-best seasonal total in program history.
Rounding out the list of graduates are football’s Jamie Irving, Bernard Obi, Humberto Padilla and Dakota Warren, men’s golf’s H.J. Roberts, tennis’ Martina Trierweiler and track & field’s Matt Dudley, Kathya Garcia and Anderson Mutegi.
Figueroa, Olsson, Roberts and Schultz were recipients of Conference USA Academic Medals for achieving cumulative grade point averages of 3.75 or higher.

Eloy Atkinson – Football (Management)
Eloy started 29 games at center for the Miners, including all 24 over the last two seasons. A Rimington Award candidate, he was a two-time honorable mention All-Conference USA selection.
Matt Dudley – Track & Field (Multidisciplinary Studies) Matt ranked 61st in the nation in the discus in 2012 with a personal-best mark of 53.78 meters. He competed at the 2012 NCAA West Preliminary Championships in the discus.
Josh Fely – Football (Multidisciplinary Studies) Josh became the first UTEP player in three years to post 100 tackles when he accumulated 112 stops this season. He played two seasons at UTEP and started every game at WILL linebacker in 2012. He was a member of the 2012 C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll.
Stephanie Figueroa – Volleyball (Psychology) Stephanie registered 571 digs in 2011, earning the No. 2 spot in the UTEP record book. She is the first Miner volleyball player to be selected to the Capital One Academic All-America team. She was a two-time recipient of a C-USA Academic Medal for compiling a GPA of 3.75 or higher and was a two-time member of the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll.
Kathya Garcia – Track & Field (Kinesiology) Kathya has claimed five C-USA silver medals and one bronze medal while at UTEP. She is a two time All-Region honoree and competed at the NCAA Cross Country Championships twice. She was a two-time member of the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll.
Rod Huntley – Football (Multidisciplinary Studies) Rod made 29 starts at right guard for the Miners from 2008-10. He was a second team All-Conference USA choice in 2010, the year UTEP played in the New Mexico Bowl.
Jamie Irving – Football (Multidisciplinary Studies) Despite being plagued by injuries the last two years, Jamie closed out his career with 135 tackles. He ranked no. 2 on the squad with 79 stops in 2010 and was a C-USA All-Freshman linebacker in 2008.
Nick Lamaison – Football (Multidisciplinary Studies) Nick threw for 3,404 yards in two seasons at UTEP. An 18-game starter at quarterback, he is tied for ninth place in school history with 24 touchdown passes.
Anderson Mutegi – Track & Field (Multidisciplinary Studies)
Anderson was a member of the 4x100m relay team that competed at the 2011 NCAA Championships and finished 19th overall. He earned seven C-USA gold medals, 10 silver and two bronze as a Miner.
Bernard Obi – Football (Multidisciplinary Studies) Bernard played in 46 games for the Miners, making 24 starts in the defensive line. He registered 96 tackles, 13.5 tackles for losses and seven sacks and was honorable mention All-League as a senior.
Richard Olsson – Track & Field (Multidisciplinary Studies) Richard ranked 20th in the nation in the javelin with a personal-best of 71.58m in 2012. He competed at the 2011 NCAA Championships and finished 24th in the event. He was a two-time recipient of a C-USA Academic Medal for posting a GPA of 3.75 or higher and was a two-time member of the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll.
Humberto Padilla – Football (Multidisciplinary Studies) Humberto played two seasons for the Miners from 2005-06 after transferring from City College of San Francisco. He worked with the football team as a graduate assistant this past season.
H.J. Roberts – Men’s Golf (Accounting)
H.J. was on the UTEP roster from 2008-12 before continuing to work with the team as a graduate assistant. He is a four-time recipient of a C-USA Academic Medal for maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher and a four-time member of the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll.
Skye Schultz - Soccer (Biology)
Skye has appeared in 50 games for UTEP, including 44 starts, while contributing 13 goals and 15 assists for 41 total points. She was the 2009 C-USA Freshman of the Year. She was a three-time recipient of a C-USA Academic Medal for posting a GPA of 3.75 or higher and a three-time member of the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll.
Drew Thomas – Football (Criminal Justice) Drew was a two-year starter at cornerback and ranked second on the team with 81 tackles as a senior. He was a four-time member of the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll.
Martina Trierweiler – Tennis (Kinesiology) Martina has held down the no. 1 singles position for the UTEP tennis team the last two years. She has compiled 18 career dual-match victories and earned placement on the Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll three times.
Chelsea Troupe – Softball (Education)
Chelsea was one of the nation’s most prolific hitters, rating eighth in the NCAA in home runs per game and slugging percentage and 15th in batting average in 2012. She was named an Easton Fastpitch All-American, first team All-Conference USA and was a three-time member of the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll.
Dakota Warren – Football (Multidisciplinary Studies) Dakota scored 149 points in two years as UTEP’s kicker, making 25 field goals and 74 PATs. He was perfect on PATs as a sophomore, converting all 42 attempts.
Greg Watkins – Football (Finance)
Greg led all UTEP defensive linemen with 39 tackles in 2012 while adding four tackles for losses and 3.5 sacks. He was an honorable mention All-Conference USA pick.
Darren Woodard – Football (Multidisciplinary Studies) Darren started all 12 games in the UTEP secondary this season and registered 44 tackles with six pass break-ups. He earned honorable mention All-Conference USA honors.
