Former Burges grad John Skelton was carted off the field late Sunday afternoon with his Cardinals trailing before Kevin Kolb lead Arizona to a 20-16 opening day win.
Skelton looked sharp early after being named the starter for week one completing 11-of-17 passes for 124 yards. After leading the Cards to a 13-3 lead, Skelton had gone cold in the third quarter. His injury came after a 17-yard completion midway through the fourth quarter that provided the Cardinals’ first first down of the second half.
Skelton will be reevaluated, but coach Ken Whisenhunt said in a statement after the game Skelton appears to have a sprain. “Preliminary tests indicate there is no fracture and it appears to be a sprain. We will have a better idea on severity and potential time loss in the next day or so.”
Trailing 13-16 in the 4th, Kolb came in and led the Cardinals on an 80-yard drive capped off with six-yard touchdown pass to Andre Roberts that proved to be the game winner.
Kolb is expected to be the week 2 starter against New England.
