Former Miner Blessing Okagbare took eight in the women’s 100m finals with a time of 11.01 at the 2012 Olympics on Saturday.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (Jamaica) earned gold with a time of 10.75, followed by Carmelita Jeter (USA) clocking in a season-best of 10.78 and Veronica Campbell-Brown (Jamaica) with a mark of 10.81.
Okagbare earned a spot in the finals after posting a personal-best of 10.92 in the semifinals. The time was the fourth-fastest time of the 100m semifinals.
The Nigerian native will compete again on Tuesday at 12:05 (MT) in the women’s long jump.
Former Miner Churandy Martina also took the track in the men’s 100m earlier in the day. Martina crossed the finish line third in the fifth heat of the day with a time of 10.20. Martina will compete again tomorrow in the semifinals of the 100m.
Representing France tomorrow is Mickael Hanany in the men’s high jump set to begin at 12:05 p.m.
