After just two weeks into the 2013 season, New Mexico State softball's sophomore Staci Rodriguez earned her first Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week honor for the week of Feb. 11-17, the conference office announced. This is Rogriguez' first time receiving the honor.
The Paramount, Calif. native led the Aggies at the plate over the week with a .400 batting average and .840 slugging percentage. She worked for a .429 on-base percentage and was 10-for-25 at the plate for NM State with two double, a sacrifice fly and a career-high 13 RBI with three home runs. She helped lift the Aggies to a 7-1 win over I-10 rival UTEP with four RBI off two hits that included her first home run of the week. She finished the week with three multi-hit games and had her best game against Colorado State on Sunday, Feb. 17, when she went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a stand-up double.
Rodriguez has started in each of the Aggies 11 games this season and leads the team with five home runs and 20 runs batted in. The sophomore earned her first sacrifice fly of the season in the Aggies win over UMKC on the opening day of the Troy Cox Classic on Friday, Feb. 15.
