NMSU volleyball to host two WAC matches

The New Mexico State volleyball team hosts two Western Athletic Conference matches in the Pan American Center this week. The Aggies face Grand Canyon, Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. (MT) before taking on Texas-Pan American, Saturday, Oct. 26 at 3 p.m.

Radio Coverage: The Aggie Sports Network is airing five more matches over the radio waves this season, all on KSNM AM 570, with Jay Sanderson giving the play-by-play action. The matches airing over the in Las Cruces can also be heard from anywhere around the world on the Internet by logging onto www.NMStateSports.com. Just click on the live events link to access the coverage for a fee.
Saturday’s match against Texas-Pan American will be on the radio with first serve set for 3 p.m.

Television Coverage: Six matches are scheduled to be produced for television by the AggieVision Production team this year. For a complete show times go to www.AggieVision.tv or call your local cable provider.

The match against Grand Canyon, Thursday, Oct. 24 will be produced for TV by AggieVision.

About the Aggies: The Aggies dropped two straight conference matches last week and fell to the No. 3 spot in the standings. NM State’s six-game winning streak was broken when it lost to Bakersfield in five sets, after taking a 2-0 lead in the match. The Aggies, although have won eight out of the last 11 matches.

NM State is hitting .207 as a team and holding its opponents to a .157 hitting percentage. In conference matches only, the Aggies lead the league with a .265 hitting percentage and also lead the WAC holding league opponents to a .098 hitting percentage in eight WAC matches this year.

Senior Desiree Scott has the highest hitting percentage on the year for NM State with at .350, while senior Lauren Loerch is the first Aggie attacker to mark at least 200 kills as she has 217 this season (2.78/set). Scott needs just three more kills to reach 200 and is posting 2.53 per set.

On the defensive side of the net, Scott has 100 total blocks and is leading the WAC with 1.64 blocks per set in WAC matches only. Red shirt sophomore Gwen Murphy is averaging 1.40 blocks per set during WAC play and has tallied 35 of her season’s 72 total blocks during league play.
