
The UTEP cross country team will take on I-10 rival New Mexico State at the Kachina Classic in Las Cruces, N.M. on Saturday.
Leading the women’s team is All-American Risper Kimaiyo who claimed her 12th career Conference USA Athlete of the Week honor after finishing first at the Lori Fitzgerald Invitational with a time of 17:35.17. The senior claimed her third straight crowns at the Kachina Classic last year posting a time of 16:59 in the 5K race.
Anthony Rotich took his first cross country crown at the 2012 Lori Fitzgerald Invitational. The freshman led the men’s team to a first place finish clocking in a time of 14:37.81. Rotich was named the C-USA Male Athlete of the Week for his performance at the meet.
Last season, Elkana Rotich ran away with the men’s title at the Kachina Classic recording a time of 25:21 in the 8K race. The senior crossed the finish line third at the Lori Fitzgerald registering a time of 15:26.48.
UTEP’s next stop will be Stillwater, Okla. for the Cowboy Jamboree on Sept. 29.
