NMSU Golf Forced to Withdraw from Lone Star Invite

Tuesday, October 16, 2012 - 3:31pm

Three New Mexico State men’s golfers withdrew in the final round of the UTSA/Lone Star Invitation Tuesday morning. The players were hit with a stomach bug that forced them to withdraw. Justin Shin, Zach Adams and Willy Hogan were the remaining golfers to compete in the final round.

The Aggies did not count a team score for the tournament due to the withdraws.

“Justin is just putting too much pressure on himself. He just needs to play golf,” head coach Mike Dirks said. “The rest of the guys are doing the same thing. We try and press too much on the road, where we need to just relax and play golf.”

Shin carded a final round score of 4-over par, 76 finishing 38th overall at 10-over par, 226. Hogan was 7-over par, 79 on the day and finished 17-over par, 233, placing tied for 54th. Adams, who played as an individual in the tournament carded his best round with a 6-over par, 78. He finished 69th overall with a 23-over par, 239.

The Aggies will be back in action on Oct. 22-23 as they host the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate at the NMSU Golf Course.
