Representing the Miners at the 2013 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships will be Anthony Rotich and Janice Jackson.
Rotich will be participating in the men’s 5,000m at 7:15 p.m. on Friday and the 3,000m at 6:55 p.m. on Saturday.
The sophomore heads into the Championships ranked fifth in the nation in the 5,000m with a time of 13:38.58, which is his personal-best and the second-fastest time in program history.
The last time the distance runner took the track, he had a stellar showing earning two gold medals in the 5,000m and 3,000m and two silver medals in the mile and distance medley relay at the Conference USA Championships. Rotich earned two awards at the conference meet, the Highest Performer of the Meet and the Performer of the Meet for claiming the C-USA Championship record and the facility record in the 3,000m with a time of 8:06.46.
The Kenyan native has not slowed down posting nine top-three finishes this season in the Orange and Blue. Rotich will be partaking in the 3,000m where he is seeded 14th heading into the NCAA Championship with a personal best of 7:53.43 registered at the UW Husky Classic.
On the women’s side, Janice Jackson will be competing in the 60m hurdle semifinals scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on Friday.
The junior shocked the competition at the C-USA Championships, when she sprinted out of the block and clocked in a personal best and school record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.17 earning the gold medal at the meet. Jackson time not only gave her the Conference Champion title, but also secured her as No. 7 in the nation in the event.
The hurdler has recorded first-place finishes in the 60m hurdles in all four meets that the Miners have participated in this season. Jackson has proven to be a threat on the track, prior to the conference meet she clocked in a time of 8.29 in the 60m hurdles at the Texas A&M Invitational defeating 17 runners.
ESPN3 will stream the meet live on March 8 from 4:30-8:30 p.m. and March 9 from 5 p.m.-7:30 p.m. A tape delay of the championship will air Sunday, March 17 from 5 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on ESPNU.
