Local wrestlers compete at National Championships in Virginia

Several local athletes are competing in the 24th annual NHSCA National High School Wrestling Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and here are some of the results reported to Newschannel 9:

138 pounds: El Dorado's Trevor Rios went 2-2 in the tournament.

138 pounds: Del Valle's Lino Gomez went 0-2 in the tournament.

138 pounds: Burges' Juan Sillas went 0-2 in the tournament.

145 pounds: Eastwood's Devin Vasquez went 2-0 in the championship bracket, but fell to West Virginia's Justin Arthur 8-0. Arthur is a 3X West Virginia State Champion. Vasquez later lost to Wyatt Robinson, 3-time state championship from New Mexico. Vasquez ended the tournament 2-2.

160 pounds: Del Valle's Javier Gomez went 1-2 in the tournament.

182 pounds: Franklin's Anthony Camacho went 0-2 in the tournament.

220 pounds: El Dorado's Trey Smith def. Josh Kaminski of Virginia by fall at 5:00. Smith faced Colorado's Andy Armstrong next, and Smith lost a decision, 3-0. Smith's coach says Luther College, a division III school, is looking at Smith.
