Diablos Above .500 for First Time This Season

Monday, August 20, 2012 - 21:53

The Diablos (43-42) have more wins than losses for the first time this season after a 6-1 win over the Grand Prairie AirHogs at QuikTrip Park. The victory also moves the team to within a game and a half of first place in the South Division.

The AirHogs managed just one hit against El Paso pitching, a second inning double by John Alonso that led to the game's first run. After Grand Prairie grabbed the one-run lead, however, the Diablos surged ahead.

El Paso scored each of its six runs in the fourth inning. Welington Dotel and Fernando Valenzuela Jr. each tallied RBI singles to put the Diablos ahead 2-1. One batter later, with the bases loaded, Daniel Nelson hit a 2-0 pitch over the left field wall for a grand slam and a 6-1 lead. The bases-loaded home run was the second of the series for El Paso.

David Casillas mantained his perfect record despite an imperfect night. Casillas (6-0) walked seven and hit a batter but surrendered just the one base hit in six and a third innings.

El Paso now returns home for a three-game set with the Wichita Wingnuts, a team the Diablos split a four-game set with during the past week. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Cohen Stadium.
