El Paso, TX (KTSM/CNN) — The Washington Redskins met the Cowboys tonight in a classic NFC East matchup at AT&T stadium, and left miserable, as Dallas used a stellar third quarter to pull momentum in their favor in a 31-16 Dallas victory, helping celebrate owner Jerry Jones birthday in style. It was his 71st birthday.
With the Giants pretty much out of the picture and no one exactly running away with the division, every game against the remaining divisional opponents from here on out could mean everything for these two teams.
Dallas improves to 3-3 in the NFC East, tied with Philadelphia, who beat the Tampa Bay Bucs, 31-20. Washington falls to 1-4, while the New York Giants fall to 0-6.
Tony Romo was 18-30 for 170 yards, one touchdown and one interception, while Washington's Robert Griffin III was 19-39 with 246 yards and one interception. Cowboys had just 213 total yards in the victory. Dwayne Harris returned a punt back 86 yards for a score which helped turn the tide for the Cowboys.
"Dwayne did a fantastic job," Dallas coach Jason Garrett said. "Talk about making difference-making plays in the game."
Dallas Running Back Demarco Murray left with a knee injury, while linebacker Demarcus Ware left with right quadricep injury. Both did not play in the second half, and will be evaluated this week.
Sunday, Dallas is at Philadelphia in a battle for the division lead.
