EL PASO - Good news for UTEP Miner football fans. Star running back Donald Buckram has a bruised knee and no ligament damage.

Yesterday, the national player of the year candidate was carted off the field with an apparent knee injury. He had an MRI last night.

The results of the MRI say Buckram suffered a knee contusion. Head coach Mike Price said that TCU transfer Joe Banyard will get the start if Buckram cannot go.

"He might be out for a while, he might be able to play. Sometimes bone bruises might be as bad as a knee injury. I have had one other running back who this has happened too, and he certainly is not as tough as Donald Buckram," said Price. "Buckram has a great attitude about everything, if he can play, he'll play."

Buckram set a school record last season with nearly 1,600 yards rushing. Coaches say he was having a fantastic spring and summer training camp.

A game time decision will be made on whether Buckram plays in the season opener against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday.
