El Paso — The El Paso Chihuahuas scored four late runs in Game 1 of Wednesday’s doubleheader but lost to the Albuquerque Isotopes 5-4 at Southwest University Park. Albuquerque’s two-run lead swelled to five in the top of the sixth when Griff Erickson and Johnny Monell hit back-to-back home runs, both to center field. The Chihuahuas sent ten batters to the plate in a four-run sixth, with Jonathan Galvez’s two-run home run and Rico Noel’s bases-loaded single highlighting the rally.
The Chihuahuas went down 1-2-3 in the seventh inning of the seven-inning game, dropping their second straight to Albuquerque. Starter Michael Nix threw four hitless, shutout innings to begin the game, but was handed the loss after allowing two runs in the fifth.
