Two terrific Thoroughbred stakes race are on the menu this weekend at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino. Saturday’s $50,000 Bold Ego Handicap and the $100,000 Riley Allison Futurity on Sunday take center stage.
A power field of 8 fillies and mares will race in the Bold Ego (10th race) at five and one-half furlongs. Zia Park Distaff winner African Rose should draw plenty of support with jockey Isaias Enriquez in the saddle. African Rose has enjoyed an outstanding 2012 campaign winning 5 races from 11 tries. The speed merchant is trained by leading conditioner Justin Evans.
New Mexico-bred stakes sensation Hennessy Smash will inject plenty of speed into the feature. Steve Asmussen saddles Churchill Downs allowance winner Alydarla. Henry Dominguez trains Belmont Park shipper Rose’s Turn.
Sunday’s $50th running of the $100,000 Riley Allison Futurity will be contested at one mile for the first time. Kirk and Judy Robison’s Show Some Magic brings in graded stakes experience. I Stand Alone and Holiday Mischief are also ones to watch.
Post time on Saturday and Sunday is 12:25 p.m. There will be on live racing on Tuesday (Christmas Day). A special Wednesday racing card will be presented on Dec. 26 at 12:25 p.m.
