The UTEP women's golf team is in 24th place and NMSU in 22nd after the first round of the NCAA Division I Women's West Regional at the Washington National Golf Club in Auburn, Wash.
The Miners shot a round of 321 on the first day of the three day event. The Aggies meanwhile shot a 319. USC leads the field carding 288 heading into Friday's round.
UTEP's Ana Pastor is tied for 26th place with a three-over-par (75). Rosana Gomez is tied for 94th place (81), Shang Huang is tied for 104th (82), and Teresa Nogues (83) and Emma Edin (88) are tied for 112th and 124th, respectively. Tennessee's Erica Popson leads the event, ending the day four-under (68).
Leading the way for NM State is senior Suteera (Pang) Chanachai. She carded a 4-over-par 76 to tie for 41st on the leader board, while fellow senior Buz Bowerman-Ritchie fired a 6-over-par 78 to tie for 66th.
Senior Apinporn (Mint) Swaschuto ended her day with a 10-over, 82 and freshmen Mieke Canan and Demi make came in with scores of 83 and 86 respectively.
