Outside hitters, Talia Jones (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Esther Warren (Fort Worth, Texas), have signed national letters of intent to play volleyball at UTEP announced head coach Ken Murphy on Wednesday, May 4.
Jones, a 5’10” outside hitter from Desert Ridge High, led the Jaguars to a 27-11 overall record and an appearance in the Arizona State Championships.
Jones hammered 516 kills (4.6 k/s) in 111 sets played to rank 10th in Division 5A-1 and 25th in the state of Arizona. The outside hitter recorded 111 aces, 32 blocks and 352 digs while being tabbed All-State Second Team.
She was named the 5A-1 East Valley Player of the Year by the East Valley Tribune, the Arizona Republic Player of the Week and the Arizona Republic Most Exciting to Watch in 2010.
Jones tallied 366 kills as a junior to be named All-State Honorable Mention in 2009 and 322 kills as a sophomore to earn 5A-1 district honorable mention. She played club for the Arizona Storm, leading the team to Junior Nationals in 2009 and was named to the Who’s Who Among American High School Students.
Warren, a transfer out of Easter Washington, will have three years of eligibility remaining. Warren played in 12 contests, tallying 21 kills, 11 digs and six total blocks.
Warren played her prep volleyball at Richland High School, lettering three years with the Rebels’ squad. She was tabbed the Offensive Player of the Year of the team in 2008 and 2009, and was awarded the Most Improved Player as a freshman in 2006. The Texas native was selected to the 5A All-Academic All-District team from 2006-08.
Warren played three years for the Tejas Volleyball Club leading the squad an automatic bid to the 2010 USA Junior National Championships in Reno, Nev.
