All-American Risper Kimaiyo clocked in the nation’s fourth-best time in the women’s 5,000-meter race on Sunday night at Stanford’s Payton Jordan Invitational.
Kimaiyo recorded a new school-record and personal best time of 15:48.14 in the event as the top collegiate finisher in her section finishing eighth.
Kitria Stewart also registered a new personal record in the 800-meter run crossing the finish line with a time of 2:10.29. The time ranks fourth on the Conference USA performance list this season.
Elkana Rotich and Justice Chirchir posted a one-two finish in their section of the men’s 1,500-meter run.
Rotich took first at 3:44.41 followed by Chirchir at 3:45.55.
Senior Robert Menjo also turned in a PR in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:00.99 at the finish.
Kathya Garcia finished off the day in the women’s 10,000-meter race that began at 11 p.m. (PT) with a league-best time of 33:18.61. Garcia was the third collegiate runner to cross the finish line in her section and finished sixth overall.
Up next for the Miners is the Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Houston scheduled for May 12-15.
