SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA— A gorilla in Sydney is walking on its hind two legs, this a day after a gorilla in the United Kingdom became an internet sensation on Thursday.
Mahale, a Western Lowland Gorilla, has been walking around on two legs at Sydney's Taronga Zoo. Zoo workers said the human-like behavior is not new, but they are surprised at how often Mahale does it. The zoo workers have also said they think the behavior is due to curiosity.
Western Lowland gorillas are endangered, and the Taronga Zoo is part of a global breeding program. The World Wildlife Fund estimates that there are about 90,000 of these species living in the wild.
