El Paso, TX (KTSM) — El Paso Police are now asking the public for help in piecing together the events that happened just before a fatal crash in West El Paso early Sunday morning.
EPPD now says that they believe there are witnesses and possibly even video that could assist them in the case. Now they're asking for anyone with information to come forward.
The crash happened just after 2 a.m. Sunday morning on I-10 west near Redd Road and involved two vehicles. The preliminary investigation revealed that the two cars, a 2005 Cadillac and a 2004 Mini Cooper crashed into each other and both veered off of I-10 and rolled over.
During the crash, a 21-year-old New Mexico man was ejected from the Cadillac. The Mini Cooper then rolled over and landed on top of the man, killing him.
Four other people were transported to area hospitals for treatment of injuries that are not currently believed to be life-threatening. Police list these people as a 23-year-old New Mexico man who was driving the Cadillac, a 26-year-old New Mexico man and 22-year-old man from Odessa Texas were both passengers in the Cadillac. The police say that a 5th passenger inside of the Cadillac may have fled the scene of the accident.
The driver of the mini-cooper fled the scene of the crash before EPPD arrived on the scene and that driver's passenger was hospitalized with injuries and was unidentified as of yesterday.
Police believe that alcohol was a factor in the crash. They also tell us that the families of all men involved have been made, however investigators continue to withhold their identities until the investigation is complete.
