El Paso, TX (KTSM) — The Ysleta Independent School District (YISD) announced new administrators to its team Tuesday morning. Louisa Aguirre-Baeza has been named the new director of Academic Language Programs; and Dana DeRouen, the new principal at Hillcrest Middle School.
Aguirre-Baeza, whose new position took effect July 1, comes to YISD after serving as an assistant principal at Jane A. Hambric K-8 School in the Socorro Independent School District (SISD). While at SISD, she also worked as a bilingual teacher, technology campus coordinator, external evaluator, and director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Support.
Aguirre-Baeza has also worked as a professional development consultant at the Region 19 Education Service Center, a grant coordinator at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), and authored several publications, including one entitled, “Creating Two-Way Dual Language Schools Through Effective Leadership.”
Aguirre-Baeza, who replaces retired director Ana Silva, earned her bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies and master’s degree in education from UTEP.
DeRouen, whose new duties took effect July 7, returns to YISD after working as a human resources administrator in Fort Bend Independent School District and SISD. He previously worked at YISD for 23 years, serving as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and Employee Relations director. DeRouen earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UTEP, and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree.
