El Paso, TX — The Round Rock Express won their sixth straight game Saturday, beating the El Paso Chihuahuas 5-2 at Southwest University Park. Round Rock starter Phil Irwin allowed just one earned run on two hits in his six-inning start. The Chihuahuas have lost five of six games on their current homestand.
El Paso went ahead 2-0 in the third inning on an error by Round Rock first baseman J.P. Arencibia and a sacrifice fly by Brooks Conrad. The Express then scored five unanswered runs, including three times in a four-hit fourth inning off Jason Lane. Lane pitched seven innings in his return to the Chihuahuas’ rotation, surrendering four runs on seven hits.
After compiling 35 hits in their last three games, the Chihuahuas were held to four hits Saturday. Jeff Francoeur went 0-for-4, ending his nine-game hitting streak. Francoeur, Kyle Blanks, Alex Castellanos and Adam Moore have all strung together nine-game hitting streaks, tying the Chihuahuas team high.
