El Paso, TX (KDBC) — A spokesman with the El Paso County Sheriff's Department has released additional information in the Sheriff's Deputy involved shooting that happened at the intersection of Doniphan and E. Vinton Rd on Sunday morning.
EPCSO Deputy Sgt. Michael Peters was attempting to make a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling the wrong way near 7700 block of S. Desert around 7:15 a.m. Sunday morning. The suspect's vehicle allegedly fled from the deputy and almost struck a second deputy who was working an accident at the intersection of S. Desert and E. Vinton Rd.
The suspect's vehicle then came to a stop at the intersection of Vinton and Doniphan. During the course of taking the suspect into custody, Sgt. Peters reportedly had some sort of emergency, causing him to discharge his weapon, grazing the suspect's hand.
The Sergeant was assisted by a passerby and additional responding deputies. Both the suspect and the Sergeant were transported to area hospitals for treatment and additional evaluation. The suspect has been charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle and evading arrest.
Sgt. Peters is currently on administrative duty until the outcome of an internal investigation. Sheriff's Deputies will release the identity of the suspect as soon as he is discharged from the hospital.
