El Paso, Texas (KDBC) — El Paso County Commissioners made it official Monday morning, declaring a holiday in the Sun City.
County Commissioners declared Monday UTEP Women's Basketball Team Day.
Coach Keitha Adams and Athletic Director Bob Stull attended the meeting as a resolution was read aloud recognizing the team's historic run to the women's NIT championship game.
Stull described the momentum that seemed to build after each miner win during the tournament. "As we continued to win the crowds got bigger, it was more exciting and all of a sudden you can't get a ticket for a women's basketball game which if someone would have bet on that happening the odds in Vegas are pretty large I think against it, so it was just a wonderful turnout from the city," said Stull.
Utep ultimatley lost the championship game of the NIT in a nail biter, falling to Rutgers 56 to 54 in front of a packed Don Haskins Center.
