LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The City of Las Cruces received capital outlay funding for water and waste water infrastructure improvements from the State of New Mexico.
The utilities department received more than $3 million to replace four older wells and the remaining funds will extend city waste water services to parts of the East Mesa currently on septic systems.
The money is part of a request Governor Susana Martinez made to the state legislature to fund water infrastructure improvements statewide.
Initially Martinez asked for about $112 million for water infrastructure but the state legislature only approved $89 million.
Las Cruces received a total of more than $7 million from the state for multiple projects ranging from street lights to funding for a women's veterans memorial.
