Las Cruces, NM (KDBC) — A 19-year-old Las Cruces man was arrested Sunday evening after Las Cruces Police Officers say he led them on a high speed pursuit and ended in a brief foot chase.
LCPD say that Dakota D. Strausser, 19, was allegedly speeding northbound down Telshor Blvd. in a silver Dodge Neon around 11:00 p.m. Sunday night when an officer spotted him and turned around to attempt a traffic stop.
After the officer activated their police lights and siren, Strausser allegedly led police on a chase down Walton Blvd. to Griggs Ave. The chase continued through several city neighborhoods until the Neon crashed into the back of a car that was stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Espina St. and Missouri Ave.
Strausser then allegedly got out of his car and led officers on a brief foot pursuit. He was eventually located at an apartment at 1101 E. Boutz Rd.
LCPD says the driver of the car that Strausser hit was injured in the crash, but the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
Strausser was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with one count of aggravated fleeing a law enforcement officer, aggravated driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs and evading arrest. His bond was set at $7,000.
