El Paso, TX — The Sun Bowl Association will host the 2014 Sun Bowl Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic from Thursday, Nov. 6, to Sunday, Nov. 9, at the El Paso Country Club.
“We are excited about the opportunities the new dates provide for this tournament and players,” said Tournament Chairman Gary Hanson. “The biggest benefit for the date change will be the golfers playing their best golf at the end of the fall season.
“Other advantages for us include better weather and with the actual tournament being played during the weekend, our local fans will have a greater opportunity to come out and watch these great college All-Americans.”
Typically scheduled to begin the weekend before Thanksgiving, the All-America Classic is being moved up two weeks earlier. The schedule for the tournament will remain the same. Golfers will arrive in El Paso on Thursday, Nov. 6. The long drive and putting contests along with the sponsors’ round will now be scheduled for Friday. Actual tournament competition is scheduled to begin on Saturday morning.
The new dates are in concordance with the end of the fall college golf schedule. The 2014 Sun Bowl Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic will mark the 40th anniversary of the event that has hosted PGA greats such as Tiger Woods, Rickie Fowler, Russell Henley, Webb Simpson and Harris English.
