Las Cruces, NM — The New Mexico State men’s tennis team will end a five-game homestand by facing Abilene Christian University on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m. (MT) and the University of Arizona on Sunday, Feb. 23, at noon. Both matches will be played at the NM State Tennis Center and are free to the public.
The Aggies currently sit at 6-3 during spring play, including 3-2 at home, and are coming off three home matches last weekend. NM State lost to Northern Arizona (4-2) before easily defeating Idaho (4-0) and Kansas City-Missouri (6-1) to start 2-0 in Western Athletic Conference play.
The Aggie men are looking for another big week from sophomore Strahinja Trecakov who was named the WAC Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for Feb. 10-16. Trecakov went undefeated in doubles and 2-1 at the No. 1 singles spot during last weekend’s play.
The Abilene Christian Wildcats come into this weekend’s match with a 4-5 overall record, having just lost 0-7 to Southern Methodist University. ACU will also play Western New Mexico while in Las Cruces. That match is slated for Sunday, Feb. 23, at 10 a.m.
Arizona will head to Las Cruces with an 8-6 overall record. The Tucson Wildcats just split two matches at home, defeating WAC member Idaho 7-0 before falling 5-2 to former WAC member Nevada.
After this weekend, NM State will not have another home match until a month’s time. The Aggies will embark on a five-match road trip that will take them to Texas and California. NM State will not return home until a matchup with I-25 rival New Mexico on Saturday, March 22.
