Milwaukee, WI (WISN) — A member of the Wisconsin National Guard is at the center of controversy after a show of poor judgment on social media.
Now, some of her photos have led to a military investigation.
Two photos posted on social media by a member of Wisconsin's funeral honor guard are causing controversy, sparking outrage by some online.
12 News isn't identifying the soldier in the pictures because she says she's been receiving death threats after they went viral.
The Wisconsin National Guard confirmed to 12 News it is launching an investigation into her social media account. The first photo under scrutiny shows her with a folded flag in the background with the caption, quite "It's so damn cold out. Why have a funeral outside? Somebody's getting a jacked up flag."
The second is from her recent graduation of training for honors at funerals. 12 News has learned the casket shown in the photo was empty, but some online are still upset at the caption at the bottom which says "We put the 'fun' in funeral."
A spokesman for the Wisconsin National Guard confirmed to us the woman is a member in Milwaukee. We did reach the specialist by phone this evening, she told us she was contacted by the guard today but she would not comment any further on this photo controversy.
The guard released this statement to 12 years saying in part, "The Wisconsin National Guard takes our responsibilities for our fallen soldiers and veterans very seriously. We expect all soldiers who carry out this detail to handle it with professionalism and honor."
