El Paso (KDBC) — The clock is ticking at the future home of the El Paso Chihuahua’s. For the past months construction crews have been working hard to complete the new state of the art stadium that's scheduled to open on April.
On Saturday morning several Bel Air High school students from a Civil Engineering and Architecture vocational course got a chance to see what it takes to build a project like this one.
"It has me really impressed how hard they really work cause I mean a year ago city hall and then like to get down out of nowhere there's this huge production," Bel Air High student Leslie Valdiviezo said.
But this is not the first time the students visit the site. Last year the same group saw the initial construction, now they say there's a big difference.
"In October it was the beams was still going up everything was still being drafted out and now that there's actually like walls and there's structure being built like the structure is already built so they're adding now just the different components to it but it looks really nice," Bel Air student Kalea Oshuro said.
"We got to see a whole different ballpark it was like if we pretty much came to see a different location," Bel Air CAD teacher Steve Salcido added.
Ballpark construction managers said this opportunity makes a difference and gives a better perspective of the amount of work.
"They're out here to see what has happened and what we've done in the last several months and they've been really impressed and we showed them how the stadium's going up," Ballpark Superintendent of Construction Larry Diaz said.
"Hopefully it does interest them into the field that's the idea the class that I give is the civil engineering and architecture course and the kids are only actually seeing the buildings built through the software there's really nothing were they could actually go and build a house or a building of this magnitude." Salcido concluded.
Construction crew supervisors said the project is going as planned and that they're working even harder to be ready for the first game on April.
