El Paso, TX (KDBC) — El Paso city representatives unanimously agreed to purchase 1,200 acres of land right next to the existing landfill in Clint. The Environmental Services Department said it will use that land as a ‘buffer’ because they have enough landfill space for the next 50 to 60 years. The purchase cost the city $5.25 million.
"So I just want to assure anyone, all the residents, anyone who may be concerned that, you're not going to see anything different than from what's going on right now for a very, very, very long time,” Ellen Smythe, Director for ESD with the City of El Paso.
ESD officials also said they have the agreement in place with the current landowners and now that council has approved the funding they're ready to go.
