U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations officers working at the Presidio port of entry said they seized 143 pounds of marijuana Saturday. The drugs were allegedly concealed in the ceiling of a vehicle. The seized marijuana has an estimated street value of $114,400.
The seizure was reportedly made just before 10 p.m. Saturday when a 1999 Ford Expedition entered the port from Mexico. A CBP officer at the primary inspection booth interviewed the driver and then selected the vehicle for a secondary inspection. CBP scanned the vehicle with the Z-Portal x-ray system and noted anomalies in the appearance of the ceiling. CBP officers said that’s when they found numerous tape-wrapped bundles concealed in a hidden ceiling compartment. CBP officers said they removed 202 marijuana-filled bundles from the compartment.
CBP officers arrested the driver of the truck, Alain Amador Ramos Cordova, 21 of Chihuahua City, Chihuahua, Mexico. He was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations special agents to face charges associated with the failed smuggling attempt.
