El Paso, TX (KDBC) — A complete comprehensive curriculum review of all educational systems in the El Paso Independent School District is scheduled to begin Monday.
A team of 20 auditors from Curriculum Management Systems will conduct the review under the leadership of Dr. Fenwick English, an international expert, according to EPISD officials.
“This is a major milestone towards the development of a new program in support of all students. We are excited to have an international expert support our efforts towards transparency as we move forward in our transformation of the El Paso Independent School District," said Chief Academic Officer/Deputy Superintendent Ivonne Duran.
Durant said Superintendent Juan Cabrera made the decision to hire a firm almost immediately after he started with EPISD in September.
The auditors will spend the week visiting campuses in the district and will meet with teachers, counselors and school administrators.
"We'll be in schools and in classrooms. We're not there to evaluate principals or teachers, we're looking to see what conditions teachers are really working under," said Fenwich English with Curriculum Management Systems.
English said his team will also review curriculum documents to determine if students in EPISD are learning what they should be, based on the district's curriculum.
Parents will also have an opportunity to meet with the auditors to provide feedback at four different scheduled meetings.
