El Paso, TX — High Test Gal won her second straight stakes of the meet with a devastating 4 and 1/2 length win in the $85,000 La Senora Stakes at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino on Saturday.
The $85,000 Enchantress Stakes winner from last month retained her keen sharpness in the six furlong distaff feature for New Mexico-bred three-year-old fillies. Coming off a big win in the Enchantress going one mile at 15-1 odds, High Test Gal raced in Saturday’s sprint as the 2-1 second choice and delivered another sparkling performance.
With jockey Francisco Giles aboard, High Test Gal raced off a torrid pace set by That’s The Idea. Giles kept the High Octane filly about 4 lengths off the crackling tempo of 21.51 and 44.57 seconds before asking her for top run. Coming into the stretch run, High Test Gal was in full flight and inhaled That’s The Idea. The emerging star drew away at will for a highly convincing win in a time of 1:10.41. High Test Gal paid a $6.60 to win.
High Test Gal earned a $51,000 pay day for owner Denton Crozier of Hobbs, New Mexico. Poppy Aldavaz trains the winner of over $142,000 from 4 career wins.
Rollsetroll found some energetic strides in deep stretch to earn second placed under jockey Alfredo Juarez, Jr. The fast finishing daughter of Roll Hennessy Roll picked up $18,700 for owner Linda Hunter. Todd Fincher’s charge showed determination after launching a 4-wide bid on the turn.
Double stakes winner That’s Idea competed as the even money favorite for trainer Henry Dominguez. She looked good from the outset pouncing on the lead down the backstretch under jockey Enrique Gomez, but the Diabolical filly had nothing left for the stretch drive. The betting choice finished a distant third.
