El Paso, TX (KDBC) — El Paso Police Department's Gang Unit is now investigating a shooting and stabbing in South Central El Paso that happened shortly after the New Year began Wednesday morning.
EPPD say that the victim, 34-year-old David Mendoza got into a fight with a unknown man before midnight on December 31, 2013 at a home located at 165 N. Glenwood.
The unknown man then left the home and returned around 3:40 a.m. Wednesday morning. When he arrived, he shot Mendoza twice and then stabbed him 2 times as well.
According to EPPD, Mendoza is refusing to cooperate with police investigators and the motive of the stabbing and shooting remains unknown. Police believe that Mendoza knew his attacker, but the motive is unclear.
Mendoza was taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries, but is expected to survive. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police at (915) 832-4400.
