LAS CRUCES, N.M. — New Mexico still ranks toward the bottom of high school graduation rates even after strong improvement in 2012.
In January the state announced it had reached it's highest graduation rate ever of 70 percent in the 2011- 2012 school year.
Las Cruces public schools is a bit higher than the state average at just above 71 percent.
According to preliminary data by the Department of Public Education, that number still ranks the Land of Enchantment at the bottom nationally.
This is only the second year the Department of Education measures statistics on how many students are graduating on time in four years.
