Hudspeth County, TX (KDBC) — Hudspeth County Sheriffs have confirmed that two victims were being transported to University Medical Center in El Paso after a gun discharged at the Sierra Blanca Border Patrol Checkpoint Wednesday morning.
The driver, a 30-year-old black male with a Texas license was attempting to secure his weapon at the Border Patrol checkpoint when the gun fired, striking him through the right hand and his passenger, a 28-year-old Hispanic female with Arizona license through the left thigh.
The driver of the vehicle did have a concealed handgun permit and Hudspeth County Sheriffs Deputies say that they will continue to investigate, but they believe the circumstances to be accidental.
U.S. Border Patrol and the Hudspeth County Sheriffs were responding to the incident. Both victims were transported to University Medical Center in El Paso with injuries described as non-life threatening.
