El Paso, TX (KDBC) — Two weeks after a rigorous on-site survey by the Joint Commission of University Medical Center of El Paso’s, the accrediting agency announced that the Medical Center meets or exceeds Joint Commission standards for certification as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center.
UMC received the commission’s decision on October 31, 2013.
The on-site survey was conducted by Joint Commission reviewers who have special expertise in stroke care.
Their certification decision was based on an evaluation of national standards, clinical practice guidelines and performance measurement activities.
Certified Advanced Primary Stroke Centers must demonstrate compliance in all three areas.
A Certified Advanced Primary Stroke Center is a place where stroke specialists work as a team to timely diagnose, treat and provide early rehabilitation to stroke patients.
The survey stemmed from UMC’s request for a review of its stroke program.
