EL PASO (KDBC) — It was a day for firefighters to compete, but mostly a day to honor a fallen firefighter.
Firefighters from different departments competed in the Kip Hall Firefighter Combat Challenge. The event was created in memory of Hall who joined the El Paso Fire Department and the combat challenge team in 1998 and passed away in 2007 after a battle with cancer.
"The competitive nature is really second to the camaraderie. That's something that Kip always did you know. He was always just an ambassador when we went out and competed on the world stage wanting to connect with them, reminding them that we're brothers first and competitors second," said Captain Dave Valero.
The Firefighter Combat Challenge has been hailed by ESPN as "the toughest two minutes in sports!"
