Exercise can be refreshing or it can be a chore: it all depends on who you are. Now the American Heart Association says that people with cardiac disease benefit more from working out, when they take a positive attitude.
The study in the AHA's Journal of Circulation, found patients with heart disease who were more positive were more likely to exercise more and therefore live longer, than those with more negative feelings.
Researchers questioned 600 patients with coronary artery disease, who were treated in a Denmark hospital. Investigators asked them about their moods and habits.
Five years later study authors found the most positive patients exercised more and had a 42 percent less chance of dying than those who had a negative attitude. They also discovered, patients with positive moods and who exercised, cut their risk of heart-related hospitalizations.
