LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The Santa Teresa Country Club property and several others were up for sale at an auction at the Dona Ana County Government Center Monday morning.
Potential buyers looked at more than a hundred properties at the start of the auction but most of those were removed leaving only nine items up for bid and nobody bid on the golf course property.
"I'm looking for a good opportunity to buy a property at a reasonable price and resell it for a profit," said Mike Johnson who bid on some properties.
The golf course, now delinquent on almost $700,000 dollars in property taxes, was up for sale for the second time in back to back years.
During auction the property was divided into three different parcels, with three different opening bids and each more than $100,000.
A man did offer $20,000 for each of the parcels but there were no qualifying bids.
"I guess if nobody else is bidding on it there probably isn't a lot of opportunity there," Johnson said.
The property will likely go back on auction in mid to late October unless the full amount on back-taxes is paid before then.
