El Paso, TX (KDBC) — The City of El Paso's Transportation Department has been recommending not to close nine railroad crossings throughout the city. The Department will discuss the matter with City Council at Tuesday's meeting.
Department officials said Union Pacific Railroad Company has offered to sell their property on Mills Street so the City can use it as a parking lot. The property sits next to City Hall. Department officials said identifying nine railroad crossings was not possible.
"We looked at the locations and our recommendation to council is not to take the action because we cannot identify nine additional railroad crossings that we can close without impacting can activity for the neighborhood," Ted Marquez, Director of Department of Transportation told us.
City Council will take action on the item 18 on Tuesday.
