Thursday, August 5: 7:30pm Friday Night at the Haskins Center, Antonio Escalante will meet Edel Ruiz in a NABA Featherweight Title Fight televised on Telefutura's Solo Boxeo. The two fighters weighed in at 126 pounds, and both made weight. El Paso's Escalante actually was all smiles, full of energy after his weigh-in. "I feel strong, ready... Made weight perfectly. This is one of the first times that I feel still energized making weight. I am just excited to go and I can't wait to go out there and fight. I can tell you that it will be an exciting, a great fight. The knockout could come before the six, but you know I don't want to rush things. I want to take things step by step, I'll see how I feel in the first or second round, and I will take it from there. Everybody has plans, the plan is to knock him out, but are we really comfortable with it, I mean I don't know."
Oscar De La Hoya, founder of Golden Boy Promotions and promoter of Antonio Escalante, expects big things in the future for the 25-year old fighter from Juarez, Mexico. De La Hoya hopes a title fight is in his future, but is cautious. De La Hoya said, "This is a project that has taken quite a while with Antonio Escalante, because I want to make sure that when he fights for that world title, that he is ready for that world title. Obviously Antonio wants to fight for that world title tomorrow, but we want to make sure among us here at Golden Boy that when he faces these tough guys, we want to make sure he is ready mentally and physically."
