Tuesday, August 3: Edel Ruiz is the NABA Featherweight Champion. Ruiz is 34-22-4 with 25 knockouts. In 1998, Ruiz won his first pro title, the Pacific Coast Bantamweight Crown, and hasn't stopped since. But on Friday, August 6 at the Haskins Center, Ruiz will be the underdog to homegrown Antonio Escalante, who is the #2 world ranked featherweight contender. Ruiz, who is from Los Mochis, Mexico, spoke to Newschannel 9 through an interpreter. "I am very happy to be here, everybody has been real nice to me even though it is Antonio's hometown. Everybody has treated me real nice, and I am excited about the opportunity, and I'm ready to fight. It's difficult. There is a lot of preparation, it's been two and a half months. I'm happy to have the fight with Escalante, he's coming with it all. I know it's a great opportunity and I'm ready to go."
Friday, August 6, Antonio Escalante (23-2, 14 KO's) vs Edel Ruiz (34-22-4, 25 KO's) 7:30pm at the Haskins Center.
