Roswell, NM (KDBC) — A new plant in Roswell, New Mexico will soon start slaughtering horses, but not if the state's attorney general has anything to say about it. AG Gary King has filed a motion to intervene in a lawsuit to stop the plant, saying federal authorities have not conducted a required environmental review. One of King's primary concerns is that horses in the United States are frequently treated with drugs that the Food and Drug Administration has determined are unsafe for consumption. The plant plans to open the first week of August. The plant's owners say none of the meat will be sold in the U.S.
